What an amazing weekend in Michigan City. Enjoy this video of as many things as I could capture – if you think there’s nothing going on in this city you aren’t paying attention!
Last month, after a thorough wireframe, design & development process GoTo11 launched a new website, www.hflaporte.org for Healthcare Foundation of La Porte, a new, independent, not for profit foundation. I’m excited to continue improving the website and HFL’s online presence in the community as they work to promote better health in La Porte County.
For the past two La Porte County elections, GoTo11 has had live local election results as they come in at www.govotemc.com. With the fast, responsive phone layout it has become a popular spot to get election results in Michigan City as the user’s during election week reached into the thousands.
I’m excited to raise the bar even more for the coming election in November. I have a few ideas how to improve the service that I’m tossing around, but if anyone has ideas what they’d like to see on www.govotemc.com for future elections, please let me know!
GoTo11 was proud to launch www.kreckermarketing.com last week. A Phoenix based marketing company focused on the health industry, the site is a custom design & development WordPress integration with a video background (on desktop), a full blog and complete client controlled content. Elizabeth was a joy to work with for the course of this project and I wish her the best!
WordPress powers 20% of all self-hosted websites. Since 70% of websites don’t use a CMS at all, it is apparent that WordPress power’s a very very high percentage of CMS systems. Just like Microsoft in the 90’s, with great popularity comes great responsibility. I don’t know why WordPress continues to have lax security settings in it’s default installation which contributes to the overwhelming number of hacked sites using WordPress. There are however a few simple things you can do to make your WordPress site much less chance to be a victim.
The first thing I did this morning was check the analytics on GoVoteMC.com (data is always reported a day behind). I already knew from watching the live real-time stats on Tuesday night that there was more traffic than I had even been expecting. I don’t want to get specific on the traffic numbers, but I will say that it was 4 digits for Tuesday alone. It should also be mentioned that 70% of the visitors were on mobile devices, and 15% were on tablets. Yet another loud cry to anyone who hasn’t been paying attention that anything on the Internet that is not easily consumed on mobile devices is quickly becoming worthless to the majority of users.
Earlier this week I had an idea that I couldn’t pass up. Every election day in Michigan City I always see the same posts about not knowing who is on the ballot or results of elections. I built the site, www.govotemc.com in 2 days to help inform residents of Michigan City on the upcoming election on November 3rd and will be posting results in as real-time as I can get them. Should be fun and I hope it helps with some of the election day confusion.
I had a special visitor today all the way from Phoenix, Arizona! Well, okay, he was here on business and I was on the route, but he did drive specifically to Michigan City just to see the new office. Jeffrey Ellish from Ameriprise has been my financial advisor since 2006 and at times that title has crossed over more into “life coach” and even in more extreme times, “therapist”.
We had lunch at Fiddleheads and I talked his ear off for 2 hours, I’m sure he got his fill on “website ideas” for a very very long time.
I just signed up to the MCA Chamber of Commerce. Very excited to get out there and meet local business people and show them what GoTo11 can do for the their business. I see an opportunity in this town as many businesses online branding is seriously lacking. Looking forward to the first social gathering and seeing how it goes, guess this means I need to print more business cards!
